POEMS OF ROMANCE AND ECSTASY

Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy is a fascinating journey into the mind of a great composer. The work is based on three ideas: Scriabin’s soul in the orgy of love, the realization of a fantastical dream, and the glory of his own art. The massive forces employed—double the usual amount of woodwinds and brass—make this a sonic experience like no other. The first half of the program begins more intimately with three vignettes for violin and orchestra performed by Italian violinist Emmanuele Baldini.

Synopsis:

“Open your heart to the transformational power of love in the language of late Romantic music.”

We begin with the exceptional Italian violinist Emmanuele Baldini performing two short violin works by Dvorak and Chausson’s magnificent and soulful Poeme. The French Romantic’s most beloved work, the Poeme is a staple of the violin repertoire and an unmatched love song based on the work of the Russian writer Turgenev.

The musical rebel Scriabin composed The Poem of Ecstasy in 1907. This masterpiece brings together motifs of love and mystical experiences in new and original ways. Scriabin’s belief that music had the power to regenerate and empower the human experience is given full reign here. The massive forces employed—double the usual amount of woodwinds and brass—make this a sonic experience like no other.

Chief conductor Maestro Alfonso Scarano devolves into this mystical program with passion and intensity.
