Synopsis:

Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Latin American Night” concerts are quickly becoming “must hear” events in Bangkok’s annual cultural calendar.

The next “Latin American Night” concert will take place at Mahidol University’s Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus on July 17 at 7pm and July 18 at 4pm. TPO will once again celebrate the cultural bonds of language, heritage, and history shared by the countries of South and Central America and the island nations of the Caribbean.

Organized in collaboration with members of the Latin American diplomatic community, the concert is the perfect opportunity for music lovers to hear pieces that rarely appear on orchestral programs but are engaging and alive with Latin rhythms and colors.

This time around Alfonso Scarano will lead the orchestra in a tropical treasure trove from Brazil, Panama, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba and other Lain American countries. Blending influences from the Old and New Worlds, composers from Latin America have often found new expressive possibilities in the pulsating and ecstatic melodies of folk music.

Soprano Betty Garcés, considered by the international press as “Colombia’s operatic revlation”, will sing works by the king of Argentinian tango Carlos Gardel and Violeta Parra. In addition the orchestra will perform Arturo Márquez’s Danzon no. 2, Enrique Soro’s Danza Fantastica and many other rarely heard Latin gems.
