Three Symphonies
What’s in a name? The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra fires up the imagination by exploring three entirely different works that share the title “symphony”. Contemporary Thai symphonist Narongrit Dhamabutra pays musical homage to the Kingdom’s once thriving upriver capitol in his Sinfonia Ayutthaya. Charismatic young violinist Akkrawat Srinarong navigates the virtuosic passages in Lalo’s unique and colorful orchestral hybrid, Symphonie Español. We end on familiar ground as guest Maestro Pamornpan Komolpamorn brings a fresh perspective to the quintessential late romantic symphony: Tchaikovsky’s powerful and evocative Fifth.
