Synopsis:
Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances were the last pieces written by a composer known as the “Last Romantic”. Abandoning modernism, the main musical style of his time, the Russian great remained true to his guiding musical principles and produced music of vital energy and towering and lingering melodies. The Symphonic Dances are full of odes and memories of his native homeland.

A protégé of his more famous countryman, Dvorak, Joseph Suk came to his own in works that real a deep sadness. In contrast to that is his brilliant and richly decorated Scherzo Fantastique. A musical joke, the Scherzo pulsates with energy and colorful orchestration.

These concerts are an opportunity to hear the premiere of Swedish composer Fredrik Österling’s anticipated oboe concerto, which receives a first performance by Arnaldo de Felice. A brilliant oboist and composer himself, de Felice brings a composer’s insider view of this new composition.
