Rachmaninoff & Nielsen

Rachmaninoff & Nielsen

Nielsen’s sixth is his most quixotic symphony. While his intention was to express something ‘completely idyllic’, the idyll is infiltrated by irony, violence and doubt in the face of the composer’s own failing health. Following a phantasmagorical Humoresque, death comes knocking in a final set of variations, by turns sinister and hilarious. Leading this fantastic musical evening is Chief Conductor Gudni A. Emilsson, who is joined by Thai piano soloist winner of 3rd Thailand International Piano Competition Gun Chaikittiwatana in a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
