After winning the prize in the prestigious 2nd Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone competition, they are back again to present the classic saxophone literature by Debussy and Martin. Tchaikovsky based his suite “Mozartiana” on little-known works of Mozart as homage to the Viennese composer.

Miha Rogina

Described as ‘The best saxophonist of today’s younger generation’ by The Sax magazine, Miha Rogina is accredited for his innovative interpretations of the classic works for saxophone and orchestra and for his pioneering performances of unknown yet spectacular works of the 19th and 20th centuries.

As soloist with a number of orchestras worldwide including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Hoffer, Slovenia, Maribor and Thailand Philharmonic, Mr Rogina is best known for his innovative interpretations of the great works for saxophone and orchestra, such as Debussy’s Rhapsodie and Premiere Rhapsodie, Glazunov’s Concerto in Eb, Ibert’s Concertino da Camera, Mihaud’s Scaramouche and Villa-Lobos’ Fantasia. Also in his repertoire are the less familiar yet thrilling works such as Khachaturian’s Concerto for soprano saxophone and orchestra, Dahl’s Concerto for saxophone and winds, Lars-Erik Larsson’s Concerto for alto saxophone and Claude Pascal’s Concerto for saxophone and orchestra which is dedicated to Mr Rogina and who gave it’s world premiere. He has worked with many of today’s leading musicians including Pierre Boulez in Paris and has appeared at major international festivals such as the Vienna festival of modern music (Wien modern), the Corinth Music Festival and the Bregenzer Festival in Austria, Musical d’Arradon, Le Sax Espace and the Festival of Electro-Acoustics in France, the Bratislava Festival (Slovakia), the Zagreb Festival (Croatia) and the Nei Suoni dei Luoghi Festival in Italy. Mr Rogina has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia. Recent performances include an 11 concert tour of Japan, a concert tour of China (including performances in Beijing and Shanghai), a concert series with the Slovenia Philharmonic and a performance at the prestigious Musikverein in Vienna, Austria.

A native of Slovenia, Mr Rogina has won 1st prize at no fewer than 10 international competitions including the Bayreuth International Competition for Winds ‘Pacem in terris’ (Germany), the Adolph Sax International Competition in Paris, the International Saxophone Competition of Marco Fiorindo (Italy) and the Benidorm International Competition for Wind Instruments (Spain). Now residing in Paris, he initially studied at the Music Academy of Ljubljana (Slovenia) with Matjaz Drevensek and continued his studies in France at the Conservatoire National de Région de Cergy-Pontoise with Jean-Yves Fourmeau, the Conservatoire National de Région de Versailles with Vincent David, and at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Claude Delangle and Laszlo Hadady. He also studied at the Eastman School of Music with Chien-Kwan Lin in the United States.

An active chamber musician, Mr Rogina performs frequently with Japanese concert pianist Sae Lee with whom they perform worldwide as the Duo Kalypso. In addition to his busy concert schedule, Mr Rogina works as a mentor at the Nova Gorica International Summer School in Slovenia and is a member of the jury at the Alps-Adria-Danube International Saxophone Competition. In 2006 he was awarded the prestigious Prešeren Award (The highest Slovenian prize for artistic achievements).

Alexandre Doisy, saxophone

Alexandre Doisy was born in 1980 and started learning music at 6 years. His technical skills, expressiveness and musicality quickly caught the attention of professionals. His talent led him to enter the CNSM (Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique) of Paris at age 15, where he achieved the higher training level diploma with distinctions. He then followed the 2-year advanced cycle, while training in piano and conducting.

He won several prizes at international competitions: 1st prize Adolphe Sax of the 2nd international competition of Dinant (Belgium) in 1998, 2nd prize (no 1st prize awarded) and prize of the audience of the 50th international competition of the ARD of Munich in 2001, and 1st prize of the 2nd international competition Jean-Marie Londeix of Bangkok in 2008. He was awarded the distinctions of Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe in 2000 and of the Banques Populaires Group Foundation in 2001.

Nowadays, Alexandre Doisy regularly performs as a soloist, with the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Leipzig MDR Symphonieorchester, the Saint Petersbourg Symphony Orchestra or the Lyon National Orchestra . He has been also performing along with piano and chamber music in most of European countries, Canada, Japan and Russia. Some of his concerts have been broadcoasted, particularly for Arte or NHK.

Alexandre Doisy devotes a large part of his artistic activity to symphonic repertoire with saxophone within internationally known orchestras such as Paris National Opera Orchestra , the Ensemble InterContemporain, and the National Orchestra of the Pays de la Loire. Since 2006, he has been regularly joining performances in Lyon and stage tours of the Lyon National Orchestra and Lyon National Opera Orchestra.

A laureate of the aptitude certificate in saxophone teaching, he currently teaches in the « Conservatoire National de Région » of Toulon (South of France). He is also appointed for master class teaching in Europe and Japan.

He is interested by research and development in new equipments, and has developped a privileged partnership with the Vandoren company, whom he works for as an artistic advisor for saxophone mouthpieces and reeds.
